Types and Characteristics of Fiberglass Cloth

Types of Fiberglass Cloth

Glass fiber cloth is mainly divided into two categories: E glass fiberglass cloth and C glass fiberglass cloth. E glass fiberglass cloth is mainly used to produce various electrical insulating laminates, printed circuit boards, various vehicle bodies, storage tanks, boats, molds, etc. C glass fiberglass cloth is mainly used for the production of plastic-coated packaging cloth, as well as for corrosion-resistant occasions. The characteristics of the fabric are determined by fiber properties, warp and weft density, yarn structure and weave.

The warp and weft density is determined by the yarn structure and texture. The density of warp and weft plus the yarn structure determines the physical properties of the fabric, such as weight, thickness and breaking strength. There are five basic weaves: plain (similar to checkered cloth), twill (usually +-45 degrees), satin (similar to unidirectional cloth), leno (the main weave of glass fiber mesh) and matts (similar to Oxford cloth).

Glass fiber cloth was first made by high-temperature melting, drawing, winding, weaving and other processes with glass balls or waste glass as raw materials. The diameter of its monofilament is from a few microns to more than 20 meters, which is equivalent to one 1/20-1/5 of a hair strand, each strand of fiber strands consists of hundreds or even thousands of monofilaments. Due to technological development and the needs of industries such as electronic circuit boards and new energy sources, more and more manufacturers have begun to replace traditional materials with composite materials processed with glass fiber cloth.

For example, we make PTFE coated fiberglass cloth series products, which are a new type of high-performance multi-purpose composite material produced by impregnating polytetrafluoroethylene emulsion with glass fiber cloth as the base material. It is widely used in aviation, papermaking, food, environmental protection, printing and dyeing, clothing, chemical industry, glass, medicine, electronics, insulation, construction (base cloth of roof membrane structure), grinding wheel slicing, machinery and other fields.

Main performance characteristics of PTFE coated fiberglass cloth

  • Used between low temperature -196℃ and high temperature 280℃, with weather resistance and anti-aging. After practical application, under the condition of high temperature of 250℃, the strength will not decrease and the weight will not decrease after 200 days of continuous storage; placed at the high temperature of 350℃ for 120 hours, the weight will only decrease by about 0.6%; at the ultra-low temperature of -180℃ There will be no cracks underneath, and the original softness will be maintained.
  • Non-adhesive: not easy to adhere to any substance. It is easy to clean all kinds of oil stains, stains or other attachments attached to the surface; almost all adhesive substances such as paste, resin, paint can be easily removed.
  • It is resistant to chemical corrosion, strong acid, strong alkali, aqua regia and various organic solvents.
  • Low friction coefficient (0.05-0.1), it is the best choice for oil-free self-lubrication.
  • It has high insulation performance, anti-ultraviolet, anti-static.
  • Good dimensional stability (elongation coefficient less than 5‰) and high strength. Has good mechanical properties.
  • Drug resistant and non-toxic. It can withstand almost all pharmaceutical items.
  • Fire retardant
